Hatiya's Unions

Below the municipality, Hatiya Upazila is divided into 11 rural unions — the basic unit of local government in Bangladesh, each with its own elected Union Parishad and ward number. Nijhum Dwip, though physically a separate island reached by a further boat crossing from the mainland island, is administered as one of Hatiya's own unions rather than a separate upazila.

The unions vary enormously in how exposed they are to the river: chars near the eroding northern and eastern shoreline have seen land, and sometimes entire union headquarters, redrawn or relocated within living memory, while unions further from the open channel are comparatively stable.

  • Harni Union (Ward 1)

    On the northwestern part of Hatiya's main island, closest to the Noakhali mainland.

  • Chandnandi Union (Ward 2)

    One of Hatiya's rural unions, adjoining Harni to its east.

  • Sukh Char Union (Ward 3)

    One of Hatiya's rural unions.

  • Nalchira Union (Ward 4)

    Home to Nalchira Ghat, one of the main boat landings connecting Hatiya to the mainland.

  • Char Ishwar Union (Ward 5)

    A char union in Hatiya Upazila.
