Hatiya Municipality

Hatiya Municipality (Hatiya Paurashava) was established in 2005 and, at roughly 35 km², is the largest municipality by area in Bangladesh — though much of that area remains char land and farmland rather than dense urban settlement. It is organised into 3 mouzas, 9 wards and 23 mahallas, governed by an elected mayor and ward councillors.

As the upazila's administrative and commercial centre, the municipality hosts the Upazila Parishad complex, the main government offices, Hatiya's principal hospital, and its largest bazaars. Population within the municipality is around 65,000, a small fraction of the roughly 537,000 people the 2022 census recorded across the whole upazila — most of Hatiya's population lives in its rural unions, not the town itself.
