Erosion by the Meghna along northern Hatiya is a long-standing problem. It has intensified on the island's northern edge since around 1890, forcing many families to move their homes more than once.
Against that backdrop, HCFD gave one-time education grants to 25 students from families who had lost their homesteads. The money came from contributions by members and alumni of the forum.
The forum said it plans to turn the grant into a regular scholarship from next year.
